Evanston recognizes Shore Community Services, telecommunicators, Arbor Day and Armenian Genocide Remembrance

The Evanston City Council used the opening portion of its April 13 meeting to present multiple proclamations recognizing community organizations and observances.
Mayor Bis proclaimed April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and invited Belinda Farre, a 33-year child-welfare professional, to explain the pinwheel symbol of prevention and community partnership. The council also proclaimed April 18, 2026 as Shore Community Services Day to mark Shore's 75th anniversary; Erin Ryan, Shore CEO, accepted the proclamation and introduced staff, board members and residents who were present.
The council also proclaimed April 12–18, 2026 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, thanking dispatchers for their role in public safety; Chris Voss, communications manager for the city's 911 center, described the dispatchers' demanding, behind-the-scenes work. Additional proclamations recognized Arbor Day and named April 24, 2026 as Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.
The mayor also noted a city milestone: three years without a homicide, thanking the Evanston Police Department and multiple city teams for collaborative public-safety efforts.
These proclamations were ceremonial and informational; several acceptance remarks highlighted ongoing service and community partnerships.
