Merced council declares District 2 seat vacant, opens expedited appointment process

City Attorney Craig Cornwall said the resignation triggered a choice the council must make under city rules: appoint a replacement within 30 days or call a special election. “Councilman Deanda has submitted a resignation letter to the city. It was effective October 31st,” Cornwall told the council.
