Student credited PAS advocates for keeping him on track; board to place PAS MOU on consent

The board heard an update from PAS (a student‑advocate program) and a student testified about how the program supported his graduation.
A PAS advocate told the board the program served 277 students across county high schools this year, including 60 seniors, and reported that ‘‘as of this morning, we reported a 100% graduation rate for all of our seniors that we were able to serve throughout all the high schools here in Carroll County.’’ Advocates described in‑school supports including a care closet that provided snacks, clothing and hygiene items.
A senior, who identified himself as Aiden Fernandez, told the board he had struggled after his friend’s death and said PAS staff ‘‘helped me stay on top of everything, make sure I get out in time, stay with my grades, and they would always check in with me.’’ Board members praised his remarks and encouraged him to ‘‘give it forward’’ to other students.
The presenters recommended the PAS MOU — which would place six advocates and maintain the district relationship with PAS — be put on the consent agenda for the regular Thursday meeting; the board indicated no objection to placing it on consent.
The board thanked the presenters and the student for the update.
