Council recognizes local volunteers, declares August observances and welcomes new library trustee

At the start of the Aug. 11 meeting the Redbank Borough Council read several proclamations and introduced a new library board trustee.
Mayor William Portman presented a proclamation recognizing Philip Benenzo Dasti of Troop 67 for earning the rank of Eagle Scout and for leading a redesign project at East Side Park. The mayor also read proclamations designating Aug. 19, 2025 as World Humanitarian Day and August 2025 as National Black Business Month, citing WHO figures and national census data on Black-owned businesses.
The council also recognized Augusta "Gus" Carter for five decades of barbering and community service and welcomed Nubia Vinning as the newly appointed library board trustee; Vinning introduced herself and described her background in biological sciences and volunteer work.
These items were ceremonial and taken up at the beginning of the meeting; a deferred proclamation for Retesh Sha was rescheduled.
