Council hears project updates and grant plans, including proposed statue honoring Capt. Joshua Huie

Staff reported redevelopment activity in the Bay Avenue area, noting 151 separate properties in that area and that a conditional redeveloper for 289 Bay was appointed on Jan. 15. Upcoming bid dates were announced: a Marine Place bid opening is scheduled for Feb. 27, and Washington Avenue paving and Shore Drive sidewalk work are going to bid this week with return proposals expected mid‑March. Frank Hall Park design was presented and will be put out to bid soon; Overlook Park is close to completion and the borough aims to bid both parks together to capture better pricing.
On grants, staff said the borough submitted an American Firefighters Grant application for a pump truck on Dec. 20 and was still waiting on a decision. The borough plans to submit a T‑Mobile Hometown Grant application in the first quarter to fund a statue honoring Capt. Joshua Huie to be installed at Huie Park; staff said they expect to hear back by the end of May. "We should hear back on that grant at the end of May so very exciting," a staff member said.
The council received the reports for informational purposes; no formal action on projects or grants was recorded during the meeting.
