Highlands council introduces pay schedule changes, sets March 5 public hearing

The Borough of Highlands Mayor and Council on Feb. 19 introduced Ordinance 0252, a first reading to amend Schedule A of the borough salary ordinance and realign the pay structure with recent contract provisions. The ordinance was moved and carried on first reading; the council set a public hearing for March 5, 2025.
Council member Chillac spoke in favor of the ordinance, saying it is intended to keep salaries consistent with contract language and with recent cost‑of‑living increases. "As we know, inflation has been up to 20% in the last 4 years and this is simply realigning the salary structure to reflect that," Chillac said. Chillac also noted the borough must ensure its ordinance aligns with employment contracts already in place.
The ordinance was advanced on a unanimous recorded vote on first reading (motion passed; recorded yes votes by Council member Santes, Council M, Council Melik, Council President Sheski and Mayor Bran). The council will hold a public hearing on March 5, 2025, at which the ordinance can be discussed and a final vote taken.
