Newark Unified recognizes Bella I Care Optometry for student vision screenings; board recesses to closed session on expulsion case

Tracy, speaking on behalf of the district, introduced Bella I Care Optometry and thanked the organization for providing on-site eye exams and fittings at two Newark Unified school sites earlier in October. Tracy said glasses were expected to arrive the following week and said the program would help students “learn, read and see.”
Certificates were handed out to participating clinicians and staff; Tracy named several clinicians and support staff and invited board members to pose for photographs with the group. Miss Ashley assisted in announcing names and distributing certificates.
After the recognition and photo opportunity, the presiding officer asked for public comment on closed-session item 2.5; no members of the public spoke. The board then recessed into closed session to discuss student-expulsion case E24-25-01 under Education Code section 48918.
The public portion of the meeting closed with a roll-call announcement and a notice that the board would reconvene at 6:00 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2024.
