Oconee County Schools board approves security panel refresh and multiple vendor contracts, takes internet policy off the table

The Oconee County Board of Education on March 9 approved a package of vendor contracts and a security upgrade recommended by the district’s technology staff, accepted routine financial reports and moved its Internet Acceptable Use Policy back into public review.
Technology Services presented the primary action item: a recommended refresh of the district’s access-control system. Mr. McCullers said the district plans to purchase 120 access-control panels and supporting licenses and have Graybar provide removal, installation and configuration under contract EV2370 for a total purchase price of $18,128.65, to be funded from district general funds and an East Blest/East Blast account. “This project addresses an organizational technology need while also strengthening overall security across the district,” Mr. McCullers said.
On consent, the board approved several vendor contracts and project bids. The board accepted a proposal for rolloff waste-disposal systems for Oconee County Schools at $93,840; awarded All About Asphalt $27,891 for the Malcolm Bridge Elementary track resurfacing funded from that school’s principal account; and approved a Graybar bid of $84,182.82 for radio enhancements paid from general fund dollars. All votes on those consent items were recorded as passing, with votes called in the meeting as unanimous.
Business Services presented the February financial update before the consent votes. Mr. Adams reported a February closing cash balance that represented a 2.87% decrease from the prior month, noted 431 vendors were paid $2.3 million during February, and said ad valorem tax collections were at 97.2% for the month and 80.7% overall year-to-date. He also reported East collections showed a 23.09% decrease month-over-month but a 6.2% increase versus the same month the prior year.
On policy, the board voted to take board policy IBFG (Internet Acceptable Use Policy) off the table for public review and approved it as presented. The meeting ended with a motion, second and unanimous vote to adjourn to executive session to discuss personnel and real-estate matters.
