Council completed several routine but policy-relevant items on the agenda.
On old business the council approved on second reading an ordinance to adopt the 2024 International Fire Code into the Smyrna Municipal Code. Kevin explained the second-reading item had no substantive changes since first reading and that it aligns Smyrna with other jurisdictions in Rutherford County.
Council also approved an amendment to the municipal zoning ordinance adjusting parking requirements for elementary and middle schools to align with neighboring municipalities; the change applies regardless of school type (public, charter or private), staff said.
A resolution adopting an updated Town of Smyrna logo was approved by voice vote. Council approved updates to the sewer-use ordinance after staff said a pretreatment audit required language updates and references to current codes.
Appointments: Wayne Blair was appointed to the Board of Zoning Appeals for a three-year term ending 2029 and Gregory Cesy was appointed to the Sister City Relations Committee for an unexpired term ending 2028.
