Ruritans propose 250th-anniversary mural; village approves banner program, food truck and event fee waivers

At the April 14 meeting, representatives of the Lodi Ruritan's presented a proposed mural to mark the county’s 250th anniversary and told councilors the mural “can be done in a few weeks.” The Ruritan’s also plan rib fundraisers on Memorial Day and July 4 to support the project.
Robin McEwen, coordinating the veteran-banner program with the Harrisville Lodi Historical Society, said 66 banners will be ordered for poles around village square and other poles; the Lodi American Legion agreed to supply brackets and the Historical Society will store the banners in winter. McEwen said the vendor Military Tribute Banners takes only military-banner orders; the group had also reached out to Hometown Heroes without receiving responses. David Summers, brother of Fallen Officer Carl Summers, said his brother “gave his life for this town forty-nine years ago” and invited the public to a Police Officer Week ceremony at Woodlawn Cemetery on May 9.
On housekeeping and community-support items, Council Member Miller successfully moved to waive the assemblage permit fee for the Harrisville Lodi Historical Society presentation and to waive fees for two Lodi Health & Motion farmers markets; both fee waivers passed unanimously. Clerk-Treasurer Annette Geissman reported that she was contacted by the owner of Grubb Co., who requested permission to bring a food truck selling breakfast/brunch to village square on Thursdays or Fridays during the summer; council agreed to allow the truck and asked for a donation to parks.
Annette also said the village needs to place the general fund 3-mill renewal levy on the ballot this year; she will ask the village solicitor to prepare necessary resolutions. She provided copies of legislation and a loan agreement needed for an upcoming water-line replacement project and said a first reading on that ordinance will take place at the next meeting.
The meeting closed with a reminder that the Masons are hosting a community builders breakfast on April 25 to develop a calendar of events; the Lodi Masons also proposed a Fourth of July parade and possibly fireworks if logistics and funding can be arranged.
