Lodi Council approves minutes, grants Fire Chief vacation extension; mayor outlines grant requests and personnel plan

The Lodi Village Council took several procedural actions at its March 9 regular meeting and heard updates from the mayor on infrastructure funding and departmental staffing.
A motion by Miller, seconded by Gorglione, to approve the minutes of the Feb. 23, 2026 regular council meeting passed on roll call with YEAS recorded for Miller, Gorglione, Ridenour, Surrarrer, Double and DeMell and no NAYS.
Clerk-Treasurer Annette Geissman reported that Fire Chief Chris Ridenour could not use 40 hours of vacation by the March 8 deadline because of staffing constraints while the department has an open full-time position. A motion by Miller, seconded by Surrarrer, granted the chief a two-week extension to use those 40 hours; the roll call vote was YEAS: Miller, Surrarrer, Double, DeMell, and Gorglione; ABSTAIN: Ridenour.
Mayor Robert Geissman told council he submitted a $1,000,000 grant request to Congressman Max Miller for phase two of the village’s waterline replacement project. He said he will also submit a state capital budget request this week, routed through State Representative Sharon Ray and Senator Mark Romanchuk, seeking $125,000 for a new pavilion at Lodi Community Park. The mayor discussed the county CDBG funding deadline and mentioned a potential $100,000-range project to replace the brick paver area around village square and to make additional fountain repairs; stamped concrete was suggested as an option.
The mayor also reported that Police Chief Keith Keough intends to retire in August. Chief Keough recommended promoting a current officer; Sgt. Ashlee Miller expressed interest in the position and provided letters of recommendation. The mayor said he will advertise the vacancy and continue with the recommendation process after that advertising period.
With no further business the council adjourned after a motion by Miller, seconded by Surrarrer, which passed on roll call with six yeas and no nays.
