Berkeley Heights Board honors Governor Livingston baseball team after state sectional and Group 2 titles

The Berkeley Heights Board of Education reconvened from executive session and on June 10 presented a resolution recognizing the Governor Livingston High School varsity baseball team for a string of postseason titles.

Acting Superintendent Rob Nixon opened the program and introduced Varsity assistant coach Matthew Rego, who thanked the board, athletic staff and community for supporting the team’s run. “With hard work, commitment, discipline and high character, these guys accomplished a goal they set out to achieve,” Rego said, praising players and coaches for life lessons learned through the season.

The resolution recorded the team’s 2024 accomplishments: winning the Union County tournament with a 10–8 final over Westfield; advancing through sectional and state sectional rounds (including a 9–3 win over Delran and other reported victories); and capturing the NJSIAA Group 2 state championship 3–0 on June 8 at Veterans Park. The Board applauded the players and coaches and resolved that a signed and sealed copy of the resolution be framed and kept on display at Governor Livingston High School.

The Board read the roster and acknowledged coaches and managers. The Board’s recognition emphasized community pride and the district’s support for extracurricular achievement. The resolution text lists the date of adoption as June 10, 2024.

The presentation concluded with applause and a reminder that the roster and framed resolution will be retained by the school as a record of the team’s season.
