Vernon schools complete summer upgrades, prepare preschool expansion aid application

District officials said summer work included a near-complete high-school fire-system upgrade, new parking lots and paving; preschool space was reconfigured and the district will apply for preschool expansion aid.
Superintendent Russell Roger credited custodial and maintenance staff for summer work across district buildings and outlined several capital and facilities improvements. He said the high school’s upgraded fire system is nearly complete, new parking lots were installed (including at the high school and at athletic fields) and paving and striping work was scheduled for the week of Aug. 20.
Roger also said the preschool and board office at Walnut Ridge swapped spaces to free room for preschool expansion and that the district planned to submit a preschool expansion aid application in the coming days. Principal Jackie Van Warden separately noted Glen Meadow’s parking lot was fully repaved and that safety and play-surface improvements — including extra four-square courts — will benefit recess and after-school programs.
District leaders said these upgrades support safety, accessibility and extracurricular use as the new school year begins.
