Staff said they forwarded the document to the State Board of Accounts (SBOA) and the Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF); SBOA personnel described the document as fraudulent and advised legal review.
The packet contained claims about reduced budgets, noncompliance and alleged unauthorized expenses but did not reference specific accounts or supporting evidence. County staff and commissioners said the packet included misspellings and improper logos, which SBOA and auditors found inconsistent with official materials.
Commissioners asked staff to send the document to county legal counsel and the county auditors for investigation and to consider a public clarification if the document is being circulated to raise doubts among residents. Staff said they would continue to coordinate with SBOA and DLGF and to document the referral.
No criminal finding was made at the meeting; SBOA told the board it would not provide a legal opinion but confirmed the packet was not an official SBOA release and recommended counsel involvement.
