Four CCPS construction projects are on schedule and on budget, officials say

Dr. Watka presented a construction update to the Chesterfield County School Board on April 14, reporting that four major projects are progressing on schedule and budget and showing site and interior photos for the new West Area High School, Benley Elementary replacement, Deep Creek Elementary and the CTC Hall renovation.
"We are on time and on budget," Dr. Watka told the board, and noted the projects include planned change orders that are within budgeted contingencies. For the West Area High School, he said permanent electric service from the main line is expected by the end of June 2026, sewer service is installed on site and water service is tied to a county road project (John Thomas Way).
The presentation showed that roofing, HVAC ductwork and interior framing are under way at the high school, with courtyards and an advanced manufacturing classroom beginning to take shape. The auxiliary gym still requires concrete floor and gym‑floor installation; athletic field turnover and color selection are pending with the principal.
Benley Elementary was described as only weeks from substantial completion; officials said the move‑in will occur the week after June 8, 2026, with furniture, AV, playgrounds and punch‑list work scheduled for the summer. Deep Creek Elementary is also on track with finishing work in classrooms and final landscaping, and the CTC Hall renovation will expand CTE capacity to nearly 1,000 students.
Board members thanked the construction team and asked about site visits; the director of construction, John Bolasa, and his team offered to host tours. The update included a request to finalize utility turnovers (including a Verizon telephone transfer at Benley) ahead of occupancy.
No formal action was taken during the construction update portion of the meeting.
