Isanti — The Isanti City Council unanimously approved a special-event permit on Feb. 18 for the Rum River BMX Governor's Cup to be held at the Sani Indoor Arena Feb. 20–22.
City staff recommended approval of the three-day BMX racing event; organizer Tim Dovaski told the council the format typically draws about 300 riders daily and an estimated 800–1,000 spectators per day from a five-state region. Council members welcomed the event, noting the group has been a consistent partner and that the main operational concern was managing overflow parking.
Council Member Lundine moved to approve the permit and Council Member Peterson seconded; the motion was approved on a 4–0 voice vote. Staff and organizers said they will work together on parking plans and use designated overflow lots including the soccer complex and nearby lots.
