Austin City Council approves licenses, bids and MOAs; grants accepted with two abstentions

At a public hearing the council approved renewal of the currency exchange license for Tianda Teo Guerrero Incorporated, which staff said has held the license since 2013 with no complaints. The council also voted to award a hazardous-demolition contract to Jim's Excavating LLC, the low bidder at $6,500; staff said costs for the demolition will be assessed back to the property owner.
Council members approved a new on-sale and Sunday on-sale liquor license for Loseros Mexican Restaurant at 501 West Oakland Avenue, set to begin Jan. 1, after staff told the council that certified documents required for the license had been received.
The council unanimously approved two memorandums of agreement renewing health insurance terms for city employees: one with the Austin Associates organization and one with the UAW wastewater treatment-plant unit. Council also formally adopted the city's paid family and medical leave policy to conform with Minnesota statutory requirements.
In a recorded vote to accept grant awards from the Hormel Foundation, Craig Clark announced the foundation's awards and said details are listed in the meeting packet. The resolution to accept the grants passed with five votes in favor and two abstentions (Council members Laura Hely and Obala).
