Superintendent reiterates commitment to campus safety, praises students and recognizes volunteer safety program

Superintendent Dr. Gal Crossway used the Nov. 14 Lynwood Unified board meeting to recognize student accomplishments, reaffirm campus safety policies and honor parent volunteers.
Dr. Crossway congratulated student athletes and students who have submitted college applications and asked the community to support Lynwood High School’s football team as it advances in CIF playoffs. He thanked voters for passing Measure Y and said the measure will help fund facility upgrades. On safety he told the audience, "Lynwood Unified is a safe place and we're going to continue doing everything that we can to support each and every single one of you," adding that the district will not allow ICE operations on campus.
The board also recognized members of the volunteer group called "Burning Calories and Fighting Crime" (referred to in the meeting as BCC) for monitoring campus areas, planning safe passages and supporting school staff. Assistant director of student services Jose Hariki and Paul Garcia called volunteers to the stage and read a list of names recognized by the district.
Board members used their reports to comment on the recent elections, say they will work with the California School Boards Association and advocate for federal programs that support students, and encourage community involvement in upcoming oversight and volunteer opportunities.
