The council passed the ordinance on first reading and set a public hearing for Feb. 5, 2025.
According to the presentation to council, the operator driving the request is preparing to open before the end of March and surveyed hours at other cannabis establishments across the county to set a consistent schedule. Council members also noted that an adjacent property that had previously operated as a church — a factor cited earlier in limiting hours — has been sold, removing the prior constraint on operating times. The building at the site does not yet have a certificate of occupancy; staff said the operator is actively working toward final approvals.
Council member Santes is recorded as having seconded the motion on the ordinance. The council's recorded action was to pass the ordinance on first reading and to schedule the Feb. 5 public hearing, at which time the public and council may comment further and the council may vote on final passage.
Next steps: the public hearing will be held Feb. 5, 2025. Staff indicated that the operator continues to pursue required building and occupancy approvals before opening.
