Jones County deeds multiple trust properties to Hamlin; approves three trust-property sales

Jones County Commissioners on April 13 approved transferring a group of trust properties within the town/city of Hamlin to the City of Hamlin in exchange for the city assuming responsibility for cleanup, remediation and disposal of any waste found on those parcels.

The court also approved three separate trust-property sales in the City of Anson. The approved bids were: $5,200 for tract R52939 (Tract 777-7C, approx. 0.32 acres) to Shawn Louise Langley; $12,501 for parcel R13589 (the west 6.1 feet of Lot 2, Block A of the Duff Addition, and an adjacent 113.9-foot strip) to Jackson Heidenheimer; and $50,000 for parcel R19236 (Lot 4 and adjoining fractions of Lots 3 and 5 in Block 189, Buie, Hannah and Morrow Addition) to Carlos Francisco Sanchez Jr. Court costs were waived for each sale.

Commissioner Lonnie Vivian moved to deed the listed Hamlin trust properties to the city and to approve the three bids; Commissioner Roy Spalding seconded. The court voted unanimously in favor; the record shows all present commissioners voting aye. The deed transfers and sale approvals were recorded on the court docket as authorized by motion.

The Hamlin transfers list multiple lots and blocks across original Hamlin town plats and Hamlin Townsite additions (see agenda for full legal descriptions). The city’s assumption of cleanup and remediation obligations was recorded as “other valuable consideration” in exchange for deeds.

Next steps: county staff will prepare deed instruments and related paperwork for execution by the county judge or other authorized official, and the City of Hamlin will assume responsibility for cleanup and any required remediation prior to final transfer.
