The Salt Lake County School Board on March 18 reviewed a staff proposal to raise the district minimum number of high-school credits required for graduation from 24 to 27 and debated how the change would affect students, counselors and classrooms.
Dr. Tiffany Hall, who led the presentation, told the board the state minimum remains 24 credits and cited regulation R277-700 as the rule that sets those baseline requirements. "Our state minimum for graduation is 24 credits," she said, adding that R277-700 permits districts to add requirements but does not allow lowering state minimums and also permits individualized modifications through IEP teams.
