District wellness report: Piscataway says schools meet federal nutrition standards and keeps free breakfast for all students

Dr. Laura Heimlick, the district supervisor of health services and the district’s wellness-policy coordinator, presented the annual wellness assessment to the board and said the district’s policy aligns with the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and USDA Smart Snacks standards. She said schools provide developmentally appropriate nutrition education and physical activity, and the committee will continue target action items rather than recommend changes to the written policy at this time.
