Several members of the public used the council podium to press the city on targeted supports and community events.
Rodney Toomer told the council he is proposing a pilot youth workforce transportation support program to help vetted youth ages 14–21 get to jobs, interviews and training. Toomer suggested supports such as bus passes, rideshare vouchers, transportation stipends, gas cards or shuttle services tied to verification by a case manager or mentor program and recommended starting with a small pilot ("start from 30 to 50 young people") to measure demand and outcomes.
Mayor Gaillard responded during the meeting that the city’s planned Second Line Transit redesign — including microtransit features and app-based scheduling — aims to better serve neighborhoods and could be used to support young people accessing work and training.
Darlene Shavers, identified as Miss Super Senior Mobile 2026, asked the council to "cut the red tape" so city senior centers can host preliminaries and invited the council to support Mobile’s return to Miss Senior Alabama events; she said she will compete at the state event on June 6 in Daphne.
Sheree Shaw Lovett, Alabama National Day of Prayer Coordinator, invited the council and community to a 75th observance at the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park on the first Thursday in May.
Reggie Hill, speaking later in the public comment portion, raised concerns about transparency in appointment processes and questioned use of ARP funds (referencing $26 million) for income-based housing and possible effects on access to facilities; he urged public involvement in vetting and oversight.
No formal council action on the proposed youth transportation pilot was recorded at the meeting; the mayor and members signaled interest in coordination and further information.
