Commissioner urges broader volunteer platform for RSVP program; chair resists moving program under tourism director

Stewart said the RSVP program currently retains more than 200 volunteers and serves about 38 organizations. He said he is exploring a volunteer‑matching platform that would allow volunteers of all ages to be listed, rather than limiting placement to the RSVP age threshold of 55 and older.
Chairman Vic Rivera said he did not see placing RSVP under the tourism director as a good idea because the tourism director should be focused on tourism, and staffing and time constraints would limit that office’s ability to manage RSVP. Stewart said the platform under consideration would broaden access to volunteers for local organizations and asked anyone interested in volunteering or using volunteers to contact him.
