Dawes County approves building repairs, audit contract and several claims; chairman abstains on one payment to River A Holding LLC

The Dawes County Board of Commissioners on July 22 approved several procurement and claims items, including air-conditioning repair at 250 Main St., concrete work on the courthouse lawn, the 2025 annual audit, and payments related to River A Holding LLC.

Brad Streeks presented informal bids for an inoperable condenser at 250 Main St.; Fire & Ice submitted the only bid at $11,500. Commissioner Jake Stewart moved and Commissioner Walter Juhlin seconded the award of the air‑conditioning repair to Fire & Ice; the motion carried on a unanimous roll call vote.

Streeks also presented two bids to remove and replace a concrete structure on the courthouse lawn. Mintken Masonry submitted the low bid at $5,530 and the board awarded the work to Mintken Masonry on a motion by Stewart, seconded by Juhlin; Commissioner Juhlin abstained on that vote and the motion carried.

The board approved surplus of a county court desk (asset tag 01749) and accepted a single bid of $5.00 from Treasurer Sam Wellnitz for one Steelcase 6‑drawer cabinet and three Anderson‑Hockey 6‑drawer file cabinets.

One bid was presented for the county’s 2025 audit from Lengemann & Associates for $19,500. On Stewart’s motion, seconded by Juhlin, the board accepted the Lengemann & Associates bid and awarded the 2025 audit contract for $19,500.

Claims and monthly fee/mileage reports were approved by general consent. Two claims payable to River A Holding LLC were discussed: Claim #25070167 for $341.71 and Claim #25070204 for $219.76 were initially excepted from blanket approval but later approved on a subsequent motion; the roll call recording shows Rivera abstained on the second vote approving payment, with Commissioners Stewart and Juhlin voting aye.
