The Sherwood Village Council on Jan. 21 approved a package of routine and emergency measures, formalizing budget appropriations, a utility franchise and the village's receipt of nearly $50,000 in cannabis tax revenue.
The most consequential votes were emergency approvals of Ordinance 26-01-01 (permanent appropriations for the current year) and Ordinance 26-01-02 (a franchise granting Ohio Power Company rights to operate electric transmission and distribution facilities in the village's streets and public ways). Council also accepted Ordinance 26-01-03 to record the receipt of $49,967.79 in adult-use cannabis tax revenue covering August 2024 through November 2025. Administrator and Fiscal Officer Sherri Ramey reported the tax deposit total and the date it was received, Jan. 7, 2026.
Council handled several other formal items in a single session. Resolution 26-01-01 transferred funds from the General Fund into the Fire and Rescue Fund; Resolution 26-01-02 expressed official support for the state's America250-OH semiquincentennial activities and named Luke Kuhn and Brian Ramey as village designees; and Resolution 26-01-03 allowed the use of an "Employee Dishonesty and Faithful Performance of Duty" insurance coverage.
Most motions in the minutes record who moved and who seconded. Examples in the meeting record include the motion to accept Ordinance 26-01-01 as an emergency, moved by R. Valle and seconded by A. Buchhop; the motion to accept Ordinance 26-01-02 as an emergency, moved by S. Rohrs and seconded by R. Valle; and the motion to accept Ordinance 26-01-03, moved by J. Hohenberger and seconded by S. Rohrs. Where the minutes list recorded votes they are reported as shown: several motions list members recorded as voting "Y" (yes) by name in the official minutes.
The council also completed routine business: swearing in councilmembers, approving previous meeting minutes, accepting financial reports, and voting to pay bills. Deputy Alex Jackson presented the sheriff's report noting 41 business checks, two non-injury accidents, three stops with citations and eight traffic stops without citations. The meeting concluded after a brief state-of-the-village statement by Mayor Dave Weaner.
The ordinances and resolutions were accepted at the Jan. 21 meeting; the minutes do not specify effective dates for emergency ordinances beyond their designation as emergencies. The council adjourned following recorded motions and votes.
