The Sherwood Village Council approved a set of Utility Committee recommendations that formalize terms under the village's Werlor refuse contract and update billing practices.
The council voted to keep a $100 account-balance threshold for issuing shut-off notices and to define vacant-status eligibility as accounts using 10 gallons or less for three consecutive billing cycles. The committee also recommended there be no opt-out for residents who choose commercial dumpsters.
Under the approved terms, extra trash carts will be billed at $16.50 per month for a 65-gallon cart and $18.50 per month for a 95-gallon cart. Werlor charges $2.25 per extra bag tag; the company sells tags in bulk with a minimum order of 500, and the village will not dispense tags for extra bags from Village Hall, per the committee report.
Council members also discussed meter tampering. Water/Sewer Superintendent Jeff Hurtig reminded the council that residents should not disturb meter pits and noted a $300 meter-tampering fine set in 2019; the council directed staff to amend the Utility Billing Policy to update that fine to reflect current replacement and labor costs plus a 20% administrative fee.
