Students outline music, clubs and community service as district readies strategic plan

The South Planefield Board of Education heard student presentations from both the high school and Roosevelt School and received an overview of the district’s strategic-planning timeline.
High-school student council president Chida Anohha told the board that three band students — Cameron Venwick, Molly Venwick and Blake Greer — were accepted to the New Jersey All-State Band. Anohha also summarized recent extracurricular achievements, testing participation, and athletic results and encouraged students to enter a centennial essay contest with prizes and an April 6 recognition event.
District staff described plans to develop a strategic plan through 2029 with student, teacher, administrator and parent representation. The district said volunteers will be invited by email to rank areas of interest that will form subcommittees; an introductory meeting for committee members is scheduled for March 9, 2026, in person and on Zoom.
At Roosevelt School, Principal Dr. Carris introduced student council officers Claire Luke, Myra Rothey and Rosa Kuna, who described clubs and community initiatives including clothing drives, a coin-collection fundraiser that raised more than $1,300 for charity, and an “adopt a pet” project benefiting a local shelter. Dr. Carris and teacher Mr. Bertram also described a student-authored book by a fourth grader that was distributed to board members.
Board members praised the student presenters. Jared said the students were “very good leaders” and thanked them for presenting, and other members echoed that appreciation.
The district encouraged families with preschool-age children to attend a virtual preschool information meeting on Feb. 19, 2026, and clarified the lottery registration window and rules.
