The evening began with several recognitions: the Los Timborones Steel Orchestra performed, and the board publicly honored students and staff who responded to a medical emergency at Corona High School on Feb. 11. Eric Verter, director of safety and security, specifically named sports‑medicine students Elijah Kozloff, Jonathan Felix, Unique Jones and Natalie Campos and instructor Mr. Wynn for following emergency response protocols under professional supervision.
The board also acknowledged parents who completed the School Smarts Parent Academy, announced 23 employees who earned advanced degrees this semester, and recognized high school athletes and coaches across CNUSD for multiple CIF championships (Santiago, Norco, Roosevelt, Corona and Centennial among those honored).
Earlier in the meeting, Mr. Gonzales reported closed‑session actions: the board unanimously approved several certificated management reclassifications effective July 1, 2026 (Kimberly Kemmer, Carey Burns, Anne Marie Cortez, Brenda Pearson, Anna Luna) and unanimously dismissed one classified employee (employee #031325). The board introduced Dr. Ava Essette as principal of Eleanor Roosevelt High School (appointment noted).
