District technology chief outlines ‘blue thread’ network, flags AI and cybersecurity priorities

Odipo said the district supports roughly 95,000 connected devices and 3,000 miles of cabling and emphasized six operational strands that run on the network: daily operations, instructional delivery, home learning, monitoring and safety, compliance/data reporting, and student achievement monitoring. He highlighted dashboards used for monitoring power objectives and said teams are building site and superintendent dashboards for faster, actionable data.
The technology chief also demonstrated an AI content workflow used to produce a short audio story (Notebook LM) as an example of instructional tools, and he stressed the need for responsible use policies. Trustees raised questions about linking technology investments to measurable student outcomes, managing subscription costs, device usage for younger students and schedules for equipment refresh cycles; Odipo said a separate education‑technology presentation would be scheduled on May 5 to cover outcomes measures in detail.
Odipo flagged cybersecurity as a continuing priority and said the district’s cybersecurity analyst is a growing but still-small team. He recommended sustaining infrastructure and funding to maintain uptime, strengthen security and expand instructional technology services.
