Seymour awards Main Street pedestrian improvements to low bidder Earthworks Excavating

The Seymour Board of Selectpersons voted to award the Main Street pedestrian improvement project (state project 124-17 GR) to Earthworks Excavating Incorporated, the low bidder at $249,589, following a recommendation from B&B Engineering and an authorization letter from the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
Town staff told the board the project was delayed while DOT and local engineers reviewed a proposed change to a light at Main and Bank streets related to train station modifications. B&B Engineering noted prior positive experience with Earthworks on a state-funded sidewalk project on Woodside Avenue and recommended awarding to the low bidder. A tabulation of four bids was included in the meeting packet.
A motion to award the contract was made by Al Bruno and seconded by Trish. One board member said they would disqualify themselves from the vote because they represent First Groups; the motion carried with four votes in favor and one abstention. The board directed staff to proceed with post-award steps as shown in the authority packet.
