Greensville County School Board approves grants, policy updates, four‑day summer schedule and calendar changes

The board voted to approve the Perkins grant, which was presented at the March strategic forum, and to adopt the division’s special-education annual plan. Members also approved all policies presented for second reading at the March meeting. In each case the motion was moved, seconded and carried with members responding "I."
The board approved a proposed four‑day work week for the 2025–26 summer period, running May 29 through Aug. 7, for central office and all 12‑month employees, with hours set at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A separate calendar change was approved to designate April 21 as an unscheduled remote learning day for students because of a special election; staff will report to school buildings that day.
Board members also approved adjustments to the 2026–27 academic calendar after noting new state legislation (Senate Bill 815) removed a 14‑day pre‑LOR start requirement. The adopted adjustments move the first day to Aug. 12, make Dec. 21 a full instructional day, set Dec. 22 as an adjusted dismissal day, designate Jan. 4–5 as holidays, and set the last student day as May 25. The board said the adjusted calendar will be posted after approval.
During the superintendent report the board noted a VDOE dual‑enrollment grant of $20,000 to help licensed teachers meet qualifications for dual‑enrollment courses or to earn industry credentials. That detail was included in the division’s CAP (Corrective Action Plan) update presented to the board.
Most motions at the meeting were approved without substantive discussion; several procedural motions (minutes approval, personnel approvals from closed session) were also adopted. A separate motion to approve warrants received no second and did not pass.
What happens next: the division will post the approved 2026–27 calendar and proceed with implementation steps for the approved grants, policies and scheduling changes.
