YELM — Mayor Jodapano read a proclamation on April 14 declaring April 2026 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Yelm and called on local entities to support families and prevention efforts.
Kate Tempus, identified as a board member of Family Education and Support Services (FES), accepted the proclamation and described FES programs that support caregivers and children: evidence-based parenting education, home‑based supports and case management, supervised visitation and safe exchange services for kinship caregivers, a Parent-Child Assistance Program for pregnant and parenting mothers facing substance-use challenges, and basic-needs assistance such as housing, diapers and food. "The pin wheel is a national symbol representing the happy, healthy, and safe childhoods that all children deserve," Tempus said.
Council and staff noted local pin-wheel distributions sponsored by community partners and thanked FES for its work and outreach materials.
