Guam Legislature honors Western Pacific Veterans Community Foundation for second annual Veterans 5K

Anthony Ada and Legislative Secretary Senator Sabrina Salas Matanane among officials attesting to the recognition.
Senator Marlene River, invited to speak at the ceremony, described the foundation’s origins and community focus. “We actually established back in 2014; we started out as Team Core,” she said, describing programs aimed at youth, military families and what she called “100% community reintegration” for veterans leaving service. River thanked volunteers and partner organizations, including DoDEA ROTC cadets, the Guam Running Club and other military-family groups.
Legislators framed the recognition as honoring service and encouraging civic support for veterans. The presenters said the event and the run strengthen social bonds, promote health and wellness and mobilize local businesses and volunteers in support of veterans’ needs. The certificate text noted the recognition was signed in Hagåtña on March 18, 2026, and identified Senator Shelly V. Chargualaf as the item sponsor.
Presenters called dozens of named honorees to receive certificates during the ceremony and acknowledged that several recipients were not on site; officials said certificates would be forwarded to absent awardees. The floor invited attendees to gather for a group photograph following the presentations.
The recognition ceremony emphasized local volunteer coordination and partnerships supporting veterans and military families; no formal legislative action or vote was recorded during the remarks.
