Middle-school Beta Club highlights state wins and asks board to expand program to high school

Students from King George Middle School and their sponsor, Kathy Lion, presented their experience at the state Beta Club convention and leadership summit, described competition outcomes and a service-based project, and asked the board to consider establishing Beta Club at the high school.

Students detailed specific contests and takeaways: a marketing/communications two-minute pitch project focused on assisting low-income families with a pop-up mini-store, a Musiccology buzzer competition (the team placed fourth overall), art and academic successes (one student reported a first-place finish in the Spanish academic test with a reported score of 91), and reflections on teamwork and leadership. Sponsor Kathy Lion described the program’s pillars (achievement, character, leadership, service) and said the middle-school group had taken 15 seventh- and eighth-graders to the state convention.

Several students urged the board to consider adding Beta Club at the high school so middle-school members have a continuing opportunity; the board thanked the students and encouraged follow-up with Dr. Burns.

What’s next: Students were advised to follow up with administration (Dr. Burns) about establishing a high-school Beta Club chapter; the board expressed support and appreciation.
