Parents press board for fair prom solution after turf restrictions change venue

Dr. Boyd responded that the prom will not be held on the middle-school grass field but on a hard-surface area between the track and field, that the district would cover and protect exposed surfaces, and that vendor guidance limited heavy items (for example, large tent anchors and heavy drums) on the turf material. He said Dr. Burns and the prom committee have been working on alternatives and that staff expect the event to be well-managed despite the venue change.
Board members asked staff to continue working with parents and the prom committee to identify reasonable alternatives and to consider refund options for students affected by location changes.
