Corrales approves franchise agreement with EZ Fiber for 1 Gbps fiber service

The Corrales Village Council voted to approve a franchise agreement with EZ Fiber that authorizes the company to construct a villagewide fiber network.
An EZ Fiber representative participating by Zoom said the build is 100% fiber-to-the-premises, with a minimum service of 1 gigabit per second (1 Gbps) symmetrical for residences and higher bandwidth tiers for businesses. The representative said the company typically overbuilds existing infrastructure rather than displacing other providers and described processes for responding to subcontractor-caused utility hits and working with village public works.
Councilors asked about subcontractor incidents, competition with existing providers and build timelines. EZ Fiber said subcontractors would notify the company first and that the company maintains a direct line to local public works for incident response. The company estimated a full build could take eight to nine months with less disruptive phasing possible; an ideal, more disruptive build could be completed in about three months.
Councilors approved the franchise agreement by voice vote. No cost-to-residents was set in the meeting; EZ Fiber said pricing and sign-up details are posted on its website and that multiple providers will continue to serve the village if residents choose them.
