Berkshire Middle students present Honor Society and debut ‘Sharing Good News’ video

Berkshire Middle School principal Mandy Randalls introduced a student-led presentation at the Berkshire Local board meeting that explained Honor Society eligibility and showcased a student-made “Sharing Good News” video intended to boost school morale.

“I’m Mandy Randalls, principal of the middle school here at Berkshire,” Randalls said as she opened the presentation and turned the mic over to Ms. Nancy Tiber, who outlined the Honor Society’s selection process. Tiber said that students who meet the scholarship requirement complete an application describing accomplishments, service, leadership, character and citizenship and that faculty and self-rubrics are used to assess the last four pillars.

Tiber described scholastic thresholds for eligibility: fall eighth-grade candidates must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5–4.0 based on seventh-grade classes and the first quarter of eighth grade; spring eighth-grade candidates use seventh-grade classes plus the first three quarters of eighth grade; spring seventh-grade candidates must have a 3.85–4.0 cumulative GPA for the first three quarters of seventh grade. She said the Honor Society currently includes about 18 members and that the next induction is scheduled for May 18.

Staff and students worked with the school makerspace (led by Mr. Castilla) to collect very brief, voluntary hallway clips in which students shared everyday positive moments. The board and audience watched the compiled clips and applauded; board members praised the students and staff for the project’s morale-building effect and encouraged continuing similar efforts.

The presentation closed with board thanks to the students and to staff members who supported the project. No formal board action was required for the presentation itself; the next procedural step tied to the Honor Society is the induction event on May 18.
