The Lake County School Board on April 13 approved travel requests for two board members to attend the Florida School Boards Association annual conference June 10–12 at the Grand Hyatt Tampa. The travel request for board member Tyler Brandenburg (District 2) listed a fiscal impact of $8,798 from the school board general fund. A separate, nearly identical request for Molly Cunningham (District 4) was presented; board members noted her cost was $13 higher.
The superintendent cited Florida statute 101.395 and section 112.061 regarding travel reimbursement rules and the requirement that travel outside the district exceeding $500 receive prior approval. Both travel requests were moved, seconded and then approved by voice vote.
Earlier in the meeting the superintendent recommended approval of consent agenda items 8.01 through 10.02. The board moved and seconded the recommendation; a voice vote carried with at least one member recorded as opposed.
What happens next: The travel reimbursements will be processed according to district procedure; consent agenda items approved will proceed per the board’s agenda notes.
