Stonehaven Park playground replacement finished under budget; council accepts notice of completion

The City Council accepted staff’s recommendation to file a notice of completion for the Stonehaven Park playground replacement project after staff reported the work was finished on March 2 and came in under budget.
Parks Manager Aaron Wandon said the ad hoc committee selected Park Planet from three bidders; city crews handled demolition, saving costs. The redesign replaced an aging 2004 structure with a themed castle play feature, added an ADA‑accessible swing and a large overhead shade structure, and installed new resilient surfacing.
Wandon reported a final contract cost just over $253,000 compared with an approved project budget of $278,000 (including contingency). Funding came from the parks LLAD replacement fund. After brief public comments praising the new equipment and requesting additional shade for hot slides, Council moved and unanimously adopted the resolution accepting the completed work and directing staff to file the county notice of completion.
The Parks Division said the typical cost of a shade structure of the installed size runs between $12,000 and $15,000 and that staff will continue to consider shade in future replacement efforts.
