Interim superintendent says she came to Piscataway to support staff and sustain programs

Interim Superintendent Dr. Roberto introduced herself to the Piscataway Township Board of Education and the public on April 17, describing more than five decades in education and laying out a brief account of initial observations and priorities.
Dr. Roberto said she has visited all but two district buildings since her arrival three weeks earlier and praised the district’s teaching capacity, administrative teams and inclusive culture. "You're compliant in special education, bilingual, gen ed... the words in your mission statement are alive in your school district," she said, noting professional staff and strong building conditions.
She described her role as a temporary superintendent "to prepare the district for your permanent replacement," saying she is not in the position to make wholesale changes but to learn, influence and support. Dr. Roberto recounted classroom and program visits—including a freshman seminar culminating field day—and encouraged continued community involvement in committee meetings and district initiatives.
While she expressed regret about the budget pressures, Dr. Roberto said she stands behind the proposed budget because it reflects district priorities and preserves services for students. She also highlighted community fundraising activities and volunteer support as critical complements to district resources.
The superintendent’s remarks were followed by an extended public-comment period focused on the budget; the board later adopted the 2025–26 budget by unanimous roll call.
Dr. Roberto said she hopes to help the board and community through the transition and acknowledged she is serving in an interim capacity while the board continues its superintendent search.
