The Cumberland Town Council approved two annual mass‑gathering permits for events at the Cumberland Fairgrounds during its April 13 meeting.
Item 26‑030, the York County Kennel Club Canine Carnival planned for May 16–17, was presented as an annual event with three food vendors listed in the application, private EMS coverage and on‑site trash and parking management; town staff reported no concerns from code enforcement or public safety. After a public hearing with no speakers, the council approved the permit unanimously.
Item 26‑031, the Chickadee Classic dog show (June 18–21), likewise was presented as an annual event with parking and trash managed on site; staff noted the organizer was renewing insurance and would provide the certificate before final approval. A public commenter asked whether the event generated revenue for the town; staff said the town generally receives an application fee (noted in packet as roughly $250) and that revenue otherwise accrues to the Cumberland Farmers Club. The council approved the Chickadee Classic permit unanimously, with the caveat the organizer supply the updated insurance certificate as part of final processing.
Both items were taken in public hearing and approved by council motion and unanimous voice vote.
