Matt Sturgis, the town manager, briefed the Cumberland Town Council on routine municipal business at its April 13 meeting. He said residents can request absentee ballots for the June 9 election now and that ballots will be available beginning May 11. He also said a candidate night for town and school board contests will be held May 5 in council chambers and will be recorded and shared online; Kelly Greenleaf of Prince Memorial Library will moderate.
Sturgis previewed an April 27 workshop on possible improvements to Greeley Road led by Town Engineer Doug Reynolds; the workshop will begin at 5 p.m. and be followed by the regular council meeting. He said the town assessor, Clinton Sweat, is preparing a May 11 presentation on the town‑wide revaluation, including timelines for mailing valuation notices, informal hearings and tax commitment. "At this time, the revaluation project is on schedule and under budget," Sturgis said.
On the town’s solar project, Sturgis said materials were secured before the end of the previous calendar year to preserve tax‑code advantages and that the project is in final review with the DEP. He asked staff to post public notices and QR‑code information at town kiosks near town landing and Broad Cove Reserve. The council did not take action on these items; they were presented for information and upcoming scheduling.
