City announces youth 'Mayor for a Day' essay and 'Name the Plow' contests

Mr. McFarland outlined the Mayor-for-a-Day contest timeline: the contest opens Sept. 29, closes Dec. 10, panels will select winners by grade, winners will receive recognition at city council, and the top local winner may be submitted to the League of Minnesota Cities contest. Mr. Reeves described the plow contest, which will solicit school and public nominations, use in-person voting at Stagecoach Day and an online submission process, and display the winning decal on the plow in December.
Both items drew supportive responses from council members who noted the outreach value for youth and community engagement. Staff said winners will be shared on the city website and in the city newsletter.
