Wyoming council pauses proposed rezoning, directs staff to inform planning commission

At its Sept. 2 meeting the Wyoming City Council directed staff and the planning commission to pause consideration of a proposed citywide rezoning after members said resident feedback merited additional reflection.
A council liaison thanked the planning commission for its work but said the commission had effectively placed a pause on rezoning to allow further reflection on community input. The liaison and other council members said property owners retain options under the city’s comprehensive plan and that doing a broad rezoning now would be premature. One council member summarized the council position as declining to proceed at this time.
Communication noted: City staff told council that the city’s outreach list includes 2,784 mailing recipients and roughly 600 email subscribers, and that the April newsletter included prominent coverage of the proposed zoning work. Council members said they would relay the council’s directive back to the planning commission and thanked commission members for their work.
Public comment: Resident Lauren Oscar thanked the mayor and council for pausing the rezoning and said the decision made homeowners and citizens happy.
Next steps: Council did not place the rezoning item on the agenda for further action at this meeting and asked staff to communicate the directive to the planning commission. The item can return to a future agenda if council chooses.
