The Hiram City Council confirmed Joshua Lanegan as the city’s chief of police and administered his oath of office during a regular meeting.
The council voted on a motion to confirm the appointment effective upon the outgoing chief’s departure. The city manager, speaking to the council and assembled guests, described the selection process as deliberate and said the city sought "the best quality candidate that we can get." The city manager added, "I couldn't be more proud and more happy at this moment to have one of our own has come up through the ranks in the city of Hiram." (City manager)
An official identified as Randy administered the oath. Randy asked, in part, "Do you, Joshua Lanegan, solemnly swear that you will honestly and faithfully discharge the duties devolved upon you as chief of police for the city of Hiram, Georgia?" Lanegan answered in the affirmative and was met with applause.
The confirmation was handled on the council floor; the transcript records the motion, second and the subsequent oath. The meeting continued to other agenda items afterward.
