New Providence council honors retiring Council President Pete with tributes; he pledges continued community service

Another speaker described a Dec. 21 overnight crash near a councilmember’s home and thanked the New Providence volunteer fire department and police for an emergency response that lasted into the early morning; the speaker named Detective Jeff Bruder, Officer Kevin Guz and Officer Carmine Bosari among those thanked. “They worked from 1:30 a.m. till 3:30 a.m. to make sure that my house was safe for me and my family,” the council member said.
Multiple colleagues praised Pete’s tenure on the Board of Adjustment and the finance and sustainability committees, and said his attention to detail helped the borough navigate pandemic-era budget challenges. “Your leadership in this area has set a new standard,” a colleague said.
In his remarks, Council President Pete said he chose not to seek re-election but does not intend to stop serving the town. He told the council he will continue work with the New Providence Alliance Club and serve as an advisory board member of Eversight (formerly the Lions Eye Bank of New Jersey), citing personal reasons tied to his double cornea transplant and gratitude for the organization. He thanked his wife and family for their support and said he will continue to be active in community organizations.
The council closed public comments later in the meeting and proceeded to routine business. The farewell concluded with applause and gifts presented to the retiring council president.
