Oak Hills to strictly enforce ban on outside alcohol at course, manager says

Oak Hills Park Authority’s golf professional said the facility will begin strictly enforcing its existing rule banning outside alcoholic beverages on park property.
"There's currently a rule in place that outside alcohol is not permitted on property," said Nick Novak, the golf professional, announcing the change and asking board members to reinforce the policy with groups that use the course.
Board members and staff discussed how to roll out enforcement. Gary Leeds said long-standing groups should be treated fairly but agreed new groups should be expected to use the full services of the facility, including the restaurant. "If they're going to use the course for an outing, there should be some arrangement that they also use the restaurant as well," Leeds said.
Denise Brown and others urged visible reminders and a phased approach. Board members proposed posting signage in parking areas, adding reminders to outgoing emails and using digital cart displays or staff reminders during an initial transition period. Novak said signs currently exist but agreed to add parking-lot signs and communications to give people time to adapt.
The board discussed practical enforcement steps and penalties. Novak said first-time incidents would be handled as reminders, with stronger measures if the behavior continued, and suggested working with the restaurant to make on-site beverage options affordable and convenient.
No formal vote was recorded; the announcement was presented as an operational change staff will implement. Novak asked that authority members communicate the policy to groups they contact so enforcement is consistent across outings and events.
The authority next meets to review budget assumptions and capital projects, where enforcement costs and communications steps may be incorporated into operations planning.
