Burrillville School Committee celebrates All‑State musicians and CTE successes; notes calendar impacts

Burrillville — The Burrillville School Committee opened its April 14 meeting by recognizing All‑State musicians from across the district and later applauded students who won at SkillsUSA state competitions.
Dr. Salcido read the names of All‑State honorees across band, orchestra, guitar, jazz and chorus and thanked music educators and families. “This is the best part of being on the school committee,” Chairwoman Lisa said as certificates were distributed.
In his report, Dr. Salcido said the Council of Elementary and Secondary Education approved waiving two snow days taken during a declared state of emergency; he later asked the committee to waive those days locally so students would keep a last day of school on June 18 if the committee agreed. The committee approved the waiver by voice vote.
Dr. Salcido also noted a scheduling conflict between Career and Technical Education nationals in Atlanta and high‑school graduation: about 10 students will go to nationals, and two seniors have chosen to remain at nationals and miss graduation while two seniors will return to participate in commencement.
The superintendent said the district will update the 2026–27 calendar if pending state legislation formally moves primary election day from Tuesday, Sept. 8 to Wednesday, Sept. 9 to address Labor Day proximity.
Committee members thanked the tech team for quickly resolving Chromebook issues that briefly disrupted RiCAS testing and acknowledged the district’s Successes in CTE competitions.
