Crazy Quilters present commemorative quilt; public submits written coyote comment

During the public comment and presentations portion of the April 15 meeting, members of the volunteer group Crazy Quilters presented a commemorative quilt honoring the city's mayor and described the group's long history of charitable donations.

Nancy Allan, a founding member, outlined the group's formation in 2001 and its history of donating quilts to Orangewood Children's Home, veterans and local firefighters. "We were established in 2001 with 47 members... we donate quilts over 200 annually," the group's president told the council. Donna Carbach and Renee Jesski provided details about the quilt's design and the group's honor quilt program for local veterans; the quilters invited city staff and residents to upcoming events including an art fair on June 6. Council members responded with praise and said they would find a place to display the quilt and acknowledged the group's community service.

Earlier in the public comment period staff read a written submission from Jay Lessey asking the council to ban fruit trees to reduce coyote attraction, and asserting that multiple sources indicate coyotes do eat citrus fruit. The written comment said Lessey consulted three AI apps, a California Fish and Game representative and the city's animal services officer, and concluded "it is indeed fact that coyotes do eat citrus fruit." The council did not take action on non‑agenda comments but may refer issues to staff for follow up.

The council recessed briefly for photographs with the community guests and then proceeded to the treasurer's report and the rest of the agenda.
